Getting the Word Out: Outreach & Engagement for Libraries

a black and white halftone hand holds a loudspeaker with three hot pink lightning bolts coming out of the speaker. Text reads Getting The Word Out: Out reach & Engagement for Libraries.

Big outreach, little time. An online workshop for swamped library staff who want their engagement to improve but don’t want another thing on their to-do list.

In this two hour online workshop you will learn using hands-on activities and real scenarios, not just theory. You will learn how to land the right message, on the right platform, for the right audience. Plus, you’ll leave with an action plan you can implement right away.

Facilitated by Clare Conneally, a librarian with over a decade of experience, so you know everything we cover is grounded in the realities of library work.

  • Wednesday 25th November

  • 10am - 12pm

  • Online via Zoom

What you will learn

  • How to set clear, realistic outreach goals using the SMART framework.

  • How to identify your target audience and choose the best ways to reach them.

  • How to create focused, patron-centred messages that get your point across.

  • How to make better use of the channels and resources you already have.

“If the people you want to reach aren’t already in your library or following you on social media, how are you going to reach them?”

What to expect

  • Hands-on activities using realistic library scenarios.

  • Practical examples from public, academic and other library settings.

  • Simple frameworks and resources you can use straight away.

  • Time to work on your own outreach goals and leave with an action plan.

Who is this for?

This workshop is suitable for librarians, library assistants, and other library workers across public, academic and special libraries. It is particularly relevant to those involved in outreach, social media, marketing & communications, programming, events, or anyone who wants to promote their library’s services and reach new audiences.

Accessibility & Inclusion

Accessibility and inclusion are central to how Informed Learning workshops are designed. Automated closed captions will be available, cameras are optional, and you can participate by speaking or using the chat. You’re welcome to step away, take breaks, move or stim as needed, and participation in group activities is always optional. Workshop slides will be provided in advance, and an ISL interpreter and alternative slide formats can be provided on request at no additional cost. Informed Learning is a proudly LGBTQ+ owned organisation and a trans-inclusive space.

Cost

This workshop uses a Pay What You Can pricing model to support equity and access. Choose the price that works for you:

€25 · €40 · €55

€40 is the standard workshop price. If €25 makes the workshop more accessible to you, choose €25. If you're in a position to pay €55, your contribution helps make the lower price possible for someone else.

There are no eligibility criteria and no need to explain your choice. Nobody will ask you to justify which price you select — simply choose the option that feels right for you.
